Animal Science is concerned with the science and business of producing various animal species. An animal scientist applies principles of the biological, physical, and social sciences to the problems associated with animal production and management. This course will study these principles in relation to horses in order to explore the vast field of equine science, which involves the study of the reproduction, physiology, behavior and nutrition of horses and the many job opportunities involving horses. In addition to horses, the class will also study large and small animal management, as well as exotic animals. Animal science emphasizes the biology of each class of animal, their nutrition, care, and welfare, as well as the social and environmental impacts.
