Biography

Joan graduated from Oldfields in 1981 and returned in 2009 as the Director of Alumnae Affairs. After graduating with a dual major in early childhood and elementary education from Lesley University, Joan taught for over 20 years at the elementary school level in both the private and public school settings in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Teaching is truly Joan's passion, but she also enjoys event planning. She plans all of the major events on campus including Fall Family Weekend, Alumnae Weekend, and Graduation in addition to alumnae events. If you would ever want to host a gathering for the School, please let Joan know.

Joan is also a part of the residential life program and helps out wherever she is needed. Her daughter, Claire Jermakian ’15 graduated from Oldfields as a five-year senior and is a recent graduate James Madison University located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Claire is now living in Falls Church, Virginia. Her daughter, Rosie, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She has a rescue cat, Rockefeller. She encourages all of our alumnae to come back and visit anytime!
