Head Varsity Coach: Brendon Travis
Oldfields School Athletic Director, Keslie Tomlinson has selected Brendon Travis as the new head varsity tennis coach for the 2017 IAAM season. Coach Travis comes to OS with over 20-years of experience including successes at the high school, collegiate, club and professional levels. As a certified tennis teaching pro with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), the Registro Profesional de “Tenis (RPT – Spanish Tenis Federation; Academia Sanchez-Casal, Barcelona, Spain) and a certified United States Racquet Stringers Association Master Racquet Technician (USRSA MRT), Brendon enters his first year with OS determined to bring excellence, hard work and professionalism to the OS tennis program.
“I have always believed and follow a mantra of excellence in everything one does at any level, regardless of skill. Hard work will always prevail when talent does not. And one must always conduct themselves in a professional manner under all circumstances.” These mantras will be a challenge to the girl’s tennis program that will be lead by 8 Seniors, 3 Juniors, 6 Sophomores and 1 Freshman. Coach Travis understands the path ahead will be difficult because of the culture of a boarding school. But he believes “that should not be an excuse or limit the potential of growth or be used as a reason to accept mediocrity, losing seasons and being perennial IAAM doormat.”
“Some of my coaching methodologies and ideology include; Pressure Tennis, making practices vigorous, understanding our strengths while exploiting our opponent’s weaknesses, using high percentage tennis tactics with geometric understanding of the tennis court. And the ultimate willingness to have courage to immediate losses with the full understanding that the skills acquired through hard work, training, dedication and goal-setting are transferable and portable commodities in every girl’s journey through life.”
Coach Travis is currently the proprietor of his own company B.
